Yeah, toss the whole folder - Illustrator will recreate it. I don't know that it'll help though. Re-installing the whole app is rarely helpful, but my hands-on knowledge is on the Mac side of things, so maybe windows is different.

Those "out of memory" or "not enough ram" errors are usually caused by you bumping into the limits of Illustrator's capabilities and if they're not remedied by a restart, usually can't be fixed. The 3d effects are frequent offenders in that regard... Is the object you're trying to extrude & bevel super complex? How many points does it have? (document info panel - check "objects" in the flyout menu and be sure that "selection only" is checked) Is it super large, dimensionally? I'm just grasping at straws here, but maybe it could be hitting the size limit by requiring raster graphics that are larger than are allowed? (most of the effects menu creates raster stuff on the fly - all the gradients behind your 3-d object, for example)

If you need specific help, the folks on the Adobe forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_general tend to be wise and helpful. You also might need to include a screenshot when asking over there.

Figured since you read these....
I'm pretty new to Photoshop and Illustrator. I've been making this image on Ai - then redid it b/c my pen skills are not good either. nonetheless, i went to "bevel and extrude" my image, which is only 262KB (the ai file). Tells me i don't have enough RAM. I have 8GB - so i checked my processes and i was only using 2.4GB of my total. i see by forums this is a common issue. didn't know you have a quick fix.

Appreciate it,

Yes. I've used several of them consistently for months. The only two that started having problems were Acrobat and Illustrator, which seems to be a theme with the Master Collection according to google searches. ^..^

That is not the solution that I would have ever imagined. How weird. Had you ever opened any other apps in the suite prior to this?

Actually. Since I wasn't finding *anything*, I figured I'd spend a minute to research why my Adobe Acrobat kept giving the error "Adobe Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Adobe Acrobat, please start another component of this suite (such as Adobe Photoshop)."

I found a fix for Acrobat in a forum, which worked. And I figured, hey, why not try out Illustrator. And it's working now! So, maybe it's something that will be useful for at least some others.

Solution # 2 in the following link.

So. My Illustrator worked like a charm for a long time. Then one day it refused to open. It loads, pulls up the main screen, then the opening dialog box frame comes up, it stops, and closes itself down.

I've used CCleaner, ctrl-alt-shift opening, manually removed the prefs. It's still doing the same thing. All of my other programs from the Master Collection work just fine.

Suggestions?

I see the windows caches at the location listed - maybe have to "show invisible files" in your "Folder Options" control panel. I'm not sure about the Adobe ones. I don't have any Adobe apps installed on my windows laptop - My guess is that if you show invisible files, you'll see all of them.

It would be interesting to know about windows 7.
Neither Adobe's font cache nor Windows' font cache are in the locations mentioned above in Windows 7.

That makes more sense.

It also serves as a reminder of why I went into graphic design and not engineering. As Barbie would say: "Math is hard." :-)
